Varsity Track competes in the Mayor's Cup!

This past weekend, the Varsity Track Team competed in the NYC Mayor's Cup held at Randall's Island's Icahn Stadium. Feeling right at home at Icahn, our Gators ran their hearts out while competing against 36 other schools! The 37 schools represented all three leagues:  Catholics (CHSAA), Publics (PSAL) and Independents (AAIS).

Our youngest runners posted amazing results with the Freshman 4x8 Relay Team of Charlotte Bloemsma, India Grimstad, Rebecca Ngu and Piper Torpey bringing home a first place medal! Our 4x1 Freshman Relay Team of Katarina Dangas, Noa Hines, Charlotte Mittenthal and Zoe Russell, posted an impressive third place and our Sophomore 4x4 Relay Team of Olivia Aries, Brianna Arscott Grant, Ellen Bannon and Jamie Grimstad finished an impressive fourth place. Junior Josephine Garcia continues to impress in the Steeple Chase bringing home a fourth place medal.

From the Cake-Off to Field Day, Chapin has Spirit! Spirit Week 2013!

Chapin Spirit Week is well underway! Today our Athletic Association held a Cake Off. This tradition started a few years ago as an added "non-athletic" green vs gold event. The contestants bake green and or gold cakes and are judged on the following categories:  creativity, spirit, taste and presentation. Faculty judges rate the cakes in each category. Here is a picture of the event:

The excitement of Spirit Week and the involvement of the whole upper school community offers an energetic lead-up to the big end of year event, Upper School/Middle School Field Day at Bear Mountain!

Rev up the excitement even more by coming out to support a spring athletic team! Get outside and play!

Go Green! Go Gold! Go Gators!

With Chapin Spirit,

Ms. Caywood, Director of Athletics

Chapin's AAIS undefeated team claimed both the season and tournament champion titles to enter into the NYSAIS Championship Tournament (which is the state tournament for independent schools). Representing the AAIS, the Gators put up good fight but in the end were defeated by the #7 seed, Fieldston.

Indoor Track completed their season yesterday at the Sacred Heart Invitational held at the New Balance Armory. Personal records were met and nearly all girls placed within the top five in their events! The 4x400m team, Piper Torpey, Josephine Garcia, Claire Guthrie and Juliana O'Donohue, placed second; Josephine Garcia, Charlotte Bloemsma, Dhatri Abeyaratne, Juliana O'Donohue earned second place in the Distance Medley Relay;  Josephine Garcia earned second place in the 1000m; Charlotte Mittenthal earned 3rd place in the 55m run. Chapin Indoor Track has had a stellar second season! Congrats!

The winter season has been very exciting and now we move on to spring!

Good luck to the spring athletes!

Best,
