Performances and Arts
Whether she defines herself as a painter, dancer, singer, actor or all of them at once, every girl in Chapin’s Upper School has a chance to express herself creatively outside of the classroom. Each arts department — art, dance, drama and music — provides multiple opportunities for students to perform or exhibit their work. Some performances are by audition only, while others are open to any student who wishes to participate. Listed below are performance opportunities by department, followed by a photo gallery.
Art
- Student exhibitions throughout the year in the main corridor and the art cases
- The Memory Project – advanced art students create portraits of children living in orphanages, which are then displayed in the main corridor
Dance
- Dance Club performance – student choreography
- Dance Ensemble performance – faculty choreography, open by audition.
- Holiday Dance Ensemble performance – faculty choreography
Drama
- Fall play or musical
- Winter play
- Spring play
Music
- Choral Club – performs at the Holiday Concert, Interschool Choral Festival and Commencement
- Symphonic Supertonics – Classes 8 and 9 a cappella group that performs in the Holiday Concert, Interschool Acappellooza festival, and the Upper School Spring Concert
- Alleppaca – Classes 10 and 12 a cappella group that performs in the Holiday Concert, Interschool Acappellooza festival, and the Upper School Spring Concert
- Handbell Ensemble – Classes 11 and 12, open by audition. Performs at the Holiday Concert.
- Drumming Ensemble – Classes 10, 11, 12, open by audition. Performs at the Upper School Spring Concert
- Instrumental Chamber Ensemble – performs in the Holiday Concert, Spring Concert and at All-School Assemblies
